Edited by: Mizhara Del''thul on 24/03/2011 11:56:55 The Nefantar forfeited their right to name themselves part of the Tribes once they made their fateful choice.
While there may be individuals among those who answered the Elder's call who can prove themselves... the Nefantar are as a generalized whole no longer Matari. Many may disagree, but I don't see someone change their stripes quite so easily without great effort to prove themselves.
However, no matter how much it vexes me, the total abolition of slavery as an ideology is not a requirement to be of the Tribes, nor a 'Tribalist' as pilot Mori puts it. There is infinitely more to the ways of the various tribes to lay an ideology at the heart or at the top of any list of 'requirements'. As others have said, it's branches of a family. It is the strength of individual philosophies, bloodlines, viewpoints and cultures within a greater whole. While the same can be said of other constructs like democratic governments and such, there is a greater and deeper bond of this within the tribes. A stronger bond that is needed to keep the 'family' together in spite of it's differences and internal clashes.
That is what the Tribes are... to me, anyway. All the good values you can find in the State's meritocracy, the freedom and values of democracies the Federation pretends to champion and even some of the principles you can find in the Empire, all put together in one people. It would have torn said people apart a long time ago, if the bonds of family... of Clan and Tribe had not been there to keep us together.
And as the Elder Fleet showed... the Empire should truly fear the day we are all unified in purpose, because with all those individual strengths and capabilities working in unison... there's not much in New Eden that can hold back the Tribes.

Feh, Midular's appeasement and coddling of the Ammatar and Amarrians both should have had her shot. She was no leader and never will be. After what that woman did, she should have been given the traitorous end she deserved. Shakor is far from my favorite person in New Eden, but he's still ten times the leader than that Midular *****.

Shakor is not a choice for long-term leadership, no. He is infinitely better than Midular, but we do need a change indeed. I doubt we'll see it any time soon, but a complete cleansing of the Republic's government and having it replaced by a proper Tribal Assembly representing all tribes well would be something to strive for.
While I'll give Midular points for intent, the means she used were treason at best.

What about the approximate 1/3rd of all Minmatar who reside within the Empire? Are all of us to be denied our heritage because we believe in God and support the Empire? What about all those Matari who live in the Federation and are loyal to Federal ideology? Have they renounced their heritage too?
If the Minmatar within the Empire have no right to call themselves Minmatar, then what is the basis for the war?
Indoctrination can be broken. Those without hope can be taught hope. Those who feel their Spirits burn with desire to be free... will be free. Those who should know better... those who already know the truth but turn back to the twisted and broken past... they are unsalvageable and no longer Matari. You are no Matari and you will never be one.
Poor sad little creature, never going to know even the palest imitation of peace or freedom, in neither mind nor body.

Apparently one cannot discuss Matari Tribalism without being talked over by Amarrians worried that their adolescent sky-dominator might throw another tantrum because they haven't yet converted the entire species to fawning over His Ego.
Confirmed. Thread removed from Circle of Tribes topics of interest.

Oh, there's no censorship. Most of those who frequent the Circle of Tribes are already aware of it and may or may not decide to keep an eye on it's further progression. However, it has moved away from Tribalism and moved on to the same old debate that's been covered a hundred times before and is thus no longer a topic that would be relevant for the Circle of Tribes.

That fate and history have combined to put Caldari and Matari on opposte sides of the conflict in this cluster is a tragedy. We have more in common than many at first assume. If only your people could shed the ties that bind them to the Amarr we would undoubtedly be able to establish a relationship much to our mutual benefit.
Rarely have truer words been spoken. Sadly, it's also almost 'heresy' to some of the more gooey-eyed Federation worshipers of course, but you can't expect too much reason from political zealots. The similarities between the people of the State and Tribes, ideologically and culturally, are strong and powerful. There's warrior strength to be found, along with the savage ruthlessness and deviousness required for the... fiscally minded. There's ingenuity and innovation. There's perseverance against the odds. There's the capacity to do what must be done for your people.
Take away the politics, and all that remains between the Caldari and the Matari are similarities normally found between brothers.
Oft-times the State loyalists will find themselves arrayed against the Tribes' forces in space. While I wouldn't hesitate to position myself against the State's forces, I would always do so with a salute of respect that none others have earned outside the Tribes. Realism and politics dictate that we are enemies when we face each other in space. That is an inescapable fact with today's political climate. Culture, Spirit and recognition of a brother dictate that we are estranged family that may yet grow closer.
So let us pitch our forces against each other, autocannons against missiles, speed and maneuverability versus impenetrable shields. Long lost brethren against brethen... and once we have achieved our goals... one or the other... or even both...
... let those of us who survive the fiery forge of battle face each other... and embrace one another.
And let New Eden tremble in fear.
